Netball

Debbie was mentioning the fact that there isn’t anything going on for the girls, a few of her girls were interested in Netball and I knew we would have some interest in Dunvant so I challenged her to a game.  The only thing was I now needed to get a team together!  The Burtons came to my rescue and assembled a team which was capable of putting up a good fight against any bible bashing Netballers. netteam.jpg (11971 bytes)

The girls managed to have a few practices before the big encounter and the banter between the two churches was rife with emails flying back and for at regular intervals.   Dunvant won the match itself quite comfortably with all the girls playing as a team and working off each other.

There was great support for both teams from the boys and parents.  The Dunvant supporters were even told by the referee to be quite as we were ‘over supporting’, Parklands replied by congering round the Netball court, they met some hostile opposition when they came to the Dunvant supporters who gave them some abuse.

With a win under their belt Dunvant were full of confidence and another match was organised against West Cross by a very jubilant Mr Evans, who had full faith in the girls that they could pull off another victory.  Again Dunvant made sure they got themselves warmed up for the occasion by having a few practices at the Netball court in Dunvant school.

Going into the match the girls were missing a few key players but made up for it with some new signings such as Joanne Desmond and Emma Torry.   The team started off very shakily going behind at the end of the first quarter.  After that Dunvant decided to turn on the style and never looked back, scoring loads of points to pull off a very convincing win.

A special mention has to go to Kay, the team coach who taught the girls everything they know.  Without Kay I don’t think the girls would be where they are today – the best church Netball team in Swansea.
